How Secure is Wireless Sync?

Security of data is of paramount importance in any wireless solution. Wireless Sync provides highly secure, end-to-end communications sessions. Anyone "eavesdropping" on communications between the Wireless Sync Server and the mobile device (or the PC running PC Monitor) will not be able to intercept and decode the data being transmitted. All user information stored in the central Wireless Sync server, PC and device is also fully secured.

Each device or PC used with Wireless Sync requires a Wireless Sync Client. This client manages secure communication of data to and from the Wireless Sync Server and the target data stored on the device. The client software includes encryption libraries for the encryption and decryption of data sent over the air.

Security Highlights
  • All data from the mobile device and/or PC running the PC Monitor application (if installed) to the Wireless Sync Server is secured with 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption and travels via HTTP over TCP/IP
  • All data resident on the Wireless Sync Server is stored in an encrypted file system and is unreadable by anyone
  • Connections for PC Monitor are initiated outbound using HTTP from the PC. No firewall changes are required as long as HTTP traffic is permitted at the corporate firewall, even when using a proxy server
  • Communication from PC Monitor to Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino uses native protocols (MAPI and IIOP, respectively) and provides trusted connections to those data sources
  • Authentication sessions to the Verizon Wireless authentication server are secured using a VPN connection
  • Data sent to a device connection to the Web portal (for PIM and email access or account management) is protected using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption
